PAIRING Weave Basketmaking Workshop
Loft Gallery – SUNDAY 15 TH November 2026
In this full day creative class with sculptural basket maker Liz Mayberry you will learn the
age-old weaving technique of twining, or pairing. With comprehensive notes, and step-by-
step instructions you will find this style of weaving has a relaxing meditative flow (and can
become very addictive!)
During the workshop you will learn how to harvest, store and weave with a variety of natural
materials found easily in your garden, whilst transforming them to create your bespoke
piece.
We will be working with materials gathered from local gardens including jasmine vine, palm
inflorescence, cane, iris leaves and wisteria vine. You can incorporate handmade cordage,
and a handle if you choose to do so.
This class suits anyone who loves connecting with nature using with your hands and working
with natural materials. Beginner weavers will master the technique of creating a base, and
shaping the sides of a basket, whilst more experienced weavers can tackle a slightly larger
basket. There will be a variety of options for the rim, or border to finish off your basket.
The class will run from 10.00am till 3.00pm, with a break for lunch (please bring your own
lunch) By the end of the day everyone will be able to take home their own unique
completed basket.
